Balasore, Sept 6: Continuous hike in the water level at Subarnarekha and Jalaka rivers, has created a chance of flood in North Odisha’s Balasore district.
As per the information, at Rajghat, Subarnarekha has flown above the danger mark and at Mathani, Jalaka River has also crossed the danger mark.
The water level of the Subarnarekha was recorded to be 10.38 metres and at Jhalaka it was recorded to be 6.77 metres, whereas the danger mark for the two rivers is 10.36 metres and 5.5 metres respectively.
Chances of rise in water level of Subarnarekha has been forecasted as heavy rain fall is recorded in upper catchment. Following which 11 sluice gates of the Galudih barrage in Jharkhand has been opened and 2.69 lakh cusecs of water has being released per second through these gates.
People of the nearby river embankment has been informed and also advised to shift, forecasting the flood situation in Subarnarekha.
On the other side, due to flow of flood water at Baharda, Mithani and Tejagala, vehicular movement has been affected between Basta and Balipala.
At some places, people were seen carrying their bikes on the tractor bed due to overflowing of floodwater on roads.
