Bhubaneswar: May 10: Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Asani’ (pronounced as Asani) over West-Central and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 10 kmph during past 06 hours and lay centered at 0830 hours IST of today, the 10th May, over the west-central Bay of Bengal near latitude 15.0°N and longitude 83.7°E, 260 km southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 300 km south of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 490 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 570 km south-southwest of Puri (Odisha).
It is very likely to move nearly northwestwards till 10th May night and reach West-central Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh coast. Thereafter, it is very likely to recurve north-northeastwards and move towards Northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts.
It is likely to weaken gradually into a Cyclonic Storm during the next 24 hours.
Light to moderate rain / thunderstorm has occurred at many places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of Interior Odisha with heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of CUTTACK, BHADRAK & DEOGARH of Odisha.
In next 24 hours, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput and at a few places over the rest districts of Odisha.
Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam and Puri. For which, yellow warning have been issued for the said areas.
On 12th May, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and at a few places over the rest districts of Odisha. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Khorda, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack. Yellow warning have been issued for the said districts.
On 13th May, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and at a few places over districts of Interior Odisha. Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Balasore. Yellow warning have been issued for the said districts.
As reported by IMD, maximum temperatures observed appreciable fall at one or two places over Odisha and no large change at elsewhere over the Odisha. They were above normal at one or two places over Odisha, below normal at many places over Odisha and normal at elsewhere over Odisha.
The highest maximum temperature of 42.0oC was recorded at SUNDERGARH and the lowest minimum temperature of 23.00C was recorded at BHADRAK, KENDRAPARA & PARALAKHEMUNDI in the plains of Odisha.
