Bhubaneswar: May 01: Extremely severe cyclone ‘FANI’ is expected to intensify further. As forecast by IMD, wind speed is likely to go up to a ferocious 190 Km/hr gusting to 210 Km/hr.
Cyclonic Storm FANI is likely to cross Odisha Coast through Satpada and Balukhand area in Puri on May 3.
After landfall, it is likely to pass through Khordha, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore districts, IMD sources said.
On the other hand, as per the forecast by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) of the United States Navy, Cyclonic storm FANI is likely to cross near Balukhanda in Puri on May 3 afternoon. The wind speed before landfall will be about 175 Kmph and pass throgh Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jaipur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts before going to West Bengal.
The IMD has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall could be witnessed at isolated places like Boudh, Kalahandi, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Sundargarh. IMD warned that storm surge of about 1.5 meter height above astronomical tide is very likely to inundate low lying areas of Ganjam, Khurda, Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts of Odisha at the time of landfall.
