Death showers at Nandankanan again, a Bison Calf dies today

Bhubaneswar, July 4: Today morning the Nandankanan Zoological Park received a massive shock for the second successive day by witnessing the death of a bison calf named ‘Gouri’.  This animal took birth on June 18, 2015 and since then was undergoing treatment for Tympany related Gastritis by a health committee. It was facing problems in urination and its Urinary Bladder had been operated by a team of experts from veterinary college on June 28. Post-surgery, Gouri’s health condition was being given attention every now and then but unfortunately nothing worked out and it had to die at 4.45 am today. The exact reason for the death will come out only after the post mortem. After its death, there are now just two bisons’ left, one male and one female.

Notably, the oldest female tiger at the Nandankanan zoo died yesterday due to old age-related ailments. Born of Debashish and Yamuna on December 29, 1995, it was undergoing treatment since last three years. After its death, there are now 21 tigers left in Nandankanan, 15 normal color tigers and six white tigers.
