Malkangiri, Nov 1: With the death of three more children identified as Ramesh Padiami of Daniguda, Ramesh Pujari of Katapali under Mathili block and Rasi Madhi of Dangasakhal under Korakanda block, the death toll in Malkangiri due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) has mounted to 82 today.
While Padiami died due to the vector-borne disease while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital, Pujari and Madhi succumbed to the disease at the hospital two hours after Padiami’s death.
It may be noted that Sushila, Ramesh Padiami’s sister also died due to the disease two days ago.
As per the information from Nruparaj Sahoo, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) who is currently in Makhangiri to review the government works undertaken to get the situation in the district under control, the condition in the district has not improved as per the expectation. The death toll has mounted in the last three-four days and an expert team will be visiting the district on November 3 to investigate into the situation, he further informed.
