Death toll mounts to 67 in Malkangiri due to Japanese Encephalitis

Malkangiri, Oct 23: The death toll due to Japanese Encephalitis mounts to 67 in Malkangiri as two more kid identified as Rita Madkami of Bamabeda under Korkonda block and Swati Hantal of Lamataguda in Khairaput in the district died on Sunday morning at the district headquarters hospital (DHH).

Notably, three children, Sujit Betti of Uskapalli Village in Kalimela, Gayatri Peda of Sindhiguda village in Maithili block and Sunki Padiami of Maharampali under Kalimela block died due to the disease while undergoing treatment at the DHH on Saturday.

On the other side, to review the current situation at Malkangiri, a central team consisting of six members visited the affected village. They examined the cause of the spread of the vector-borne disease and also reviewed as to how to contain the JE fever on Friday.

The team made a visit to Palakonda, Babli and Koimetal village and before going there they headed to the district headquarters hospital for inspection of the health condition of the patients and had an hour-long discussion with the hospital staff.
