Kendrapada, Dec 3: An elderly woman was critically injured in a tragic firebreak at noon in the Kendrapada district of Odisha while she was cooking.
Injured, identified as Shanti Malik wife of Sukhdev Malik of Totasahi Village in the district has been admitted to the SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack.
Reportedly the couple was staying separately from their children. Early today while Shanti was cooking, the pot slipped the stove and the hot oil in it caught fire, making the flames go high which caught the thatched roof of the house. As Shanti was a paralytic, it was difficult for her to run away. She sustained about 50 % of burn injuries said sources.
After the fire department reached the spot, the fire was doused and the lady was rushed to the Kendrapada district headquarter hospital for treatment, and later being in a critical position, she was shifted to SCB medical college and hospital.
