External Affairs Ministry demands report on Narges Ashtari case

New Delhi, Dec 30; The Union Ministry of foreign affairs yesterday has asked the Odisha Government to submit a report on the Narges K Ashtari case.

Minister Sushma Swaraj yesterday took the statement to tweeter early yesterday evening,
“I have asked for a report from government of Odisha reg the case of Narges K ashtari.”

Notably, Narges used to run an NGO, Prishan Foundation at Rayagada for differently abled children. Peter Jilakar an employee at the org used to work as a watchman, who had a son Aseem. Aseem also used to stay in the foundation premises.

In 2014, Narges took the inmates of her foundation along with Aseem on a picnic trip to the outskirts of Rayagada town. While they were crossing the Nagavali River on foot on a hanging bridge, Aseem fell into the river and died.

With this Aseem’s father Peter had lodged a complaint with the police against Narges and foundation secretary Jewel Raju Gupta. And the accused Narges was sentenced to one-year jail term and ordered to pay rupees 3-lakh compensation to the child’s family.
