Bhubaneswar, Aug 13: With flyingchand ‘Dutee Chand’ failing to qualify for the semi-finals in the Rio-Olympics today, India’s hopes of getting a medal in the 100 metre race at the Rio Olympics destroyed badly. She finished seventh clocking 11.69 seconds. Chand’s qualifying timing for the big event was 11.24 seconds. It was for the first time that a sprinter hailing from Odisha, India had qualified for the mega sports meet after P.T. Usha since 1984.

“It was just not my moment. Thanks for trusting n having faith #FlyingChand,” Dutee tweeted soon after the event.

Notably, India’s last and only athletics medal came in 1900 when Norman Pritchard won the silver medal in 200 meter sprint and 200 meter hurdles at the Paris Olympics.
