Supreme Court on Wednesday appointed Justice (retired) Rakesh Kumar Jain, to monitor the ongoing probe in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. Earlier, he was judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court.
Earlier, Uttar Pradesh government had agreed to the apex court’s suggestion for the appointment of a former judge to supervise the state SIT’s probe.
Supreme Court on Monday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to upgrade the special investigation team(SIT) formed to probe the Lakhimpur Kheri violence by including High Level Officers.
As said by SC, Three Indian Police Service (IPS) officers have also been inducted into the special investigation team (SIT).
Police has arrested Union minister Ajay Kumar Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra and 12 others for alleged involvement in the case.
Notably, farmers’ protest on Sunday (October 3) in Lakhimpur Kheri’s Tikunia in Uttar Pradesh took a violent turn, resulting in the death of at least 8 people.
