International Youth Campaign for Kindness on Sustainable Goals inaugurated

Bhubaneswar: October 03:Gandhi Jayanti and Shastri Jayanti were celebrated at KISS and KIIT on Tuesday in presence of members of Gandhi Global Family including Dr. Bimalendu Mohanty; Ashok Pandey, Dilip Hali, Pradosh Patnaik, Rabi Behera; R.N. Dash, Secretary, KIIT & KISS; Prof Harekrushna Satapathy, VC, KISS-DU; Julius Lakra, Registrar; Dr. P. K. Routray, CEO, KISS and Dr. P.K. Das, Director, KISS. Students recited Ram-Dhun with devotion in commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi and Former Prime Minster of India Lal Bahadur Shastri. In order to propagate and instigate the message of ‘Swachhata Abhijan’ the students and staff involved themselves in the cleaning activities organized in and around their respective campuses and surrounding areas. The students of KISS cleaned the nearby Shikhar Chandi Hill temple environs to make Gandhiji’s dream of ‘Swachh Bharat’ a reality.

On this occasion International Youth Campaign for Kindness on Sustainable Goals was inaugurated by Satya S. Tripathy, Asst. Secretary-General, & Head of New York office of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and also flagged up the week long Swachhata Awareness Campaign in special programme held at KISS. UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) is launching the International Youth Campaign on Kindness for the SDGs on 2nd October in India, South Africa, Pakistan and Mexico. KIIT-KISS is one of the 12 organizations from India, South Africa, Pakistan and Mexicochosen as co-partner by UNESCO for this campaign. Other organizations include Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India; Indian Red Cross Society; Africa Unite. The campaign is a part of celebration of 150-year birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The purpose of the Campaign is to mobilize the world’s youth to achieve the 17 SDGs through transformative acts of kindness.
