Bhubaneswar: May 9: A 14-year-old girl was tragically killed in a road accident on Tuesday morning in the Bolangir district of Odisha after being struck and dragged by a bus for almost 500 meters on the Sonepur-Bolangir road near Gaintala tehsil in Odisha’s Bolangir district.
According to sources, a speeding private bus hit the bike the girl was riding while she was traveling on it with her father and sister. The father and sister of the deceased were both gravely hurt in the accident. The deceased has been identified as a resident of Brahmanipali village.
Sources said that Binapani Pandey of Brahmanipali village was going by bike towards Puintala block with his two daughters. The bike was struck from behind by the over-speeding bus.
The locals then rescued the victims and rushed them to the district hospital in Balangir for treatment. As the girl’s condition deteriorated, she was transferred to the Burla Medical College and Hospital.
Locals staged a protest after the incident, blocked the national highway that connects Balangir and Sonepur, and demanded Rs 1 crore compensation for the family. Also they demanded strong action against the driver.
Police had seized the bus and arrested the driver.
