Tainted as Police informers: Tribal thrashed by Maoists

Malkangiri, Feb 22: Suspecting of police informers, five men from the villages of Kamarpali and Mahupadar in the district were abducted and thrashed by the Maoists brutally and were later released yesterday, after threating them of dire consequences for working with the police.

Identified as Rama Kabasi, Unga Kabasi, Deba Madkami, Rame Madhi and Chaitanya Madhi of Mahupada and Kamarpalli Gram Panchayat, the victims were tied and dragged out of their house on Sunday night by about 30-40 Maoists and taken to a near by hill. Later they were released on Tuesday with a warning after beating them up and making them critically injured. The victims are presently undergoing treatments.

After the incident, the security in the areas has been tightened, while combing operations have been intensified in the hills by the joint forces from Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
