GPS Mandatory in Mineral-Laden trucks: State Govt

Bhubaneswar, Nov 21: Odisha Govt on Saturday made GPS Installations in Mineral-laden trucks mandatory to bring a transparency in mines business.
Truck owners were informed to install the systems by Dec 28. Transport permission will not be given to the person, not following the directions, said the government.
A state level task force meeting chaired by chief secretary A P Padhi, took the decision. Padhi directed the officials to keep a regular look on the trucks carrying mineral. Integrated mines and minerals management system (i3MS) is a  software developed by Odisha Space Application Centre (ORSAC) to keep an eye on the trucks from loading to unloading. the GPS device will be linked to i3MS software which will keep an eye on the trucks route and this will help stop illegal transport of minerals, said Director of mines Deepak Kumar Mohanty.
