Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: Odisha government targets to complete the construction of the bridge on river Gurupriya before September next year.
UN Behera who is Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said this on Thursday after a visit to Malkangiri recently.
Stating that the people of Malkangiri district had a long-standing demand for construction of the bridge, Behera said though the State government had earlier entrusted the construction work of the bridge to some private construction companies, they abandoned the project work due to Maoist threat.
Now that the Works Department has taken up the construction work with adequate security provided by the BSF, the work is underway in full swing. On its completion, there will be direct road communication to 151 cut-off villages as a result of which the people of these villages will have more livelihood options, he pointed out.
Behera, who was on a two-day tour to the district on January 19 and 20 to review the status of various developmental works.
