Bhubaneswar, Jan 22: On Thursday, India successfully test fired DRDO’s Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW) from HAL’s Hawk-i aircraft off the coast of Odisha.
SAAW, developed by Research Centre Imarat (RCI),Defense Research and Development Organizataion (DRDO) is the first ever smart weapon tested from an Indian Hawk-MK132.
As per, R Madhavan,CMD, HAL, “HAL has been focusing on the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign. The company owned Hawk-i platform is being extensively used for certification of systems and weapons developed indigenously by DRDO and CSIR labs.”
Hawk-i is an internally funded programme by HAL offering Indian Armed forces an upgrade and combat capability for the Hawk, transforming it into an Advanced Jet Trainer, providing training on sensors and weapons in peacetime into a potent combat platform during conflict.
The telemetry and tracking systems captured all the mission events confirming the success of the trails.
SAAW is a light weight high precision strike weapon of 120kg(260ib) carries a high explosive warhead with a standoff range of 100km(62mi) which will allow it to strike target from a safe distance.
