Tribal paintings in Odisha have been given the status of handicrafts by the state government.
Tribal paintings from the Saora, Kolha, Lanjia Saora, Dongria Kondha, Gond, Juang, Oraon, Kutia Kondha, and Santhal communities are on the approved list of handicrafts for the first phase, according to Handlooms.
The minister of handlooms, textiles, and handicrafts, Rita Sahu, agreed with a proposal from the department’s principal secretary, Arabinda Kumar Padhee, that nine tribal paintings should be considered handicrafts.
