Rayagada, Sept 21: A husband carried his pregnant woman on his shoulder for almost one kilometer on Tuesday as the ambulance did not reach the patient in time in Rayagada district.

Reportedly, the pregnant woman identified as Bangari Praska of Kansharikhola village fell ill due to anemia on Tuesday morning following which the family members called ASHA and Anganwadi workers.

After examining her health, the health workers called the 102 and 108 ambulance. Left with no choice as the ambulance did not turn up to reach the patient in time, Bangari’s husband Sombaru Praska decided to carry his wife on his shoulder. He carried his wife and reached Keshabanaiguda Chhak which is about one kilometer away from his village.

However, after two hours, a 108 ambulance arrived and took the woman to Kalyansinghpur CHC.

These incidents bring up a question on the implementation of the Janani Suraksha Yojana of the State government.
