Sundargarh, Dec 16: Late last night a woman and her two daughters were set ablaze by the husband at the Darlipalli village under Bhasma police limits in Jharsuguda. The incident took place at 3-3.15 am when the three were asleep in their room at their rented house. The husband named Jayaram Mahanandia entered the house and set the trio on fire after pouring petrol on them.
On hearing screams and cries of the victims, the locals there immediately arrived at the spot and took the three victims who were in a critical state to the Sundargarh district hospital. Although some tried to get hold of the accused, Mahanandia managed to flee. The neighbors of the family said that Jayaram was working as a daily wager at the under-construction Darlipalli NTPC power plant. He with his family stayed at a rented room at Darlipalli.
On the Diwali day he had a quarrel with his wife and has left the house since then. But late last night all of a sudden he appeared in the house and torched his wife and two daughter. It’s now stated that the elder daughter is in a critical condition with more than 90% burn injuries and the mother and another daughter have sustained 60%-70% burn injuries. Three other women were also sleeping in another room of the same house. The victims were living in the room of the rented house which they were sharing with another family.
The local police have begun investigating the case. A team led by Bhasma IIC has launched manhunts to nab the accused and the SDPO made a visit to the hospital to meet the injured.
