IMD Issues Red Warning For 11 Districts; Heavy To Very Heavy Rainfall Predicted

Yesterday’s well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal off North Odisha & West  Bengal coasts moved slightly west­northwestwards, concentrated into a  depression, and lay centered at  0830  hours  IST of today,  the 14th August over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of  West  Bengal &  North Odisha near latitude  21.7°N and longitude 87.8°E about 10 km southeast of Digha  (West Bengal) and 90 km east­northeast of  Balasore (Odisha).

It is likely to move west­northwestwards  and cross West  Bengal & adjoining  north  Odisha  coasts  close to Digha during the next 6 hours. Thereafter,  it  is very  likely  to continue to  move west­northwestwards and maintain the intensity  of depression  during  next  24 hours.

IMD has issued Red Warning for Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Bargarh,  Sambalpur, Angul,  Deogarh, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda. As stated by IMD, heavy to very heavy  rainfall is very likely to occur at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over the said districts in next 24 hours. With the impact of heavy to very heavy rainfall, flash flood/Water logging in low lying areas, inundation of agriculture field, Mudslides/landslides in vulnerable hilly areas, may happen. Also there are possibilities of some damage to informal/Kutcha road, wall collapsed of vulnerable kutcha houses. Also, there are chances of water logging in underpass road and occasional reduction of visibility causing traffic congestion in urban areas.

IMD issued orange warning for the districts of Balasore,  Bhadrak,  Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Boudh, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri. Heavy to very heavy  rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the said districts in next 24 hours. This may create water logging in low lying areas, inundation of agriculture field, Mudslides/landslides in vulnerable hilly areas. Also, there are possibilities of some damage to informal/Kutcha road, wall collapsed of vulnerable kutcha houses.

The intensity of rainfall would decrease on 15th August with isolated heavy rainfall over western odisha.
