India Records First death Due To Omicron
Amidst the growing threat of Omicron in Maharashtra, the first death in the country has occurred in Pimpri Chinchwad, adjacent to Pune. The man who died was 52 years old and had returned from Nigeria two weeks ago. His Covid test was also done, but the report was negative.
On December 28, he suffered a heart attack and was admitted to the Yashwant Rao Chavan Hospital of the Municipal Corporation. Here he died during treatment. After his death, his samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for Omicron test on the basis of suspicion and Omicron has been confirmed in its genome sequencing report.
It was said by the State Health Department that it is a coincidence that Omicron infection has been found in the report of the samples of the deceased. He died of heart attack and he also had diabetes. The Maharashtra government said that he died due to non-covid reasons.
The maximum number of cases of Omicron have been reported in Mumbai so far. State has reported 198 cases of Omicron on Thursday. The total tally of the new variant reached 450 in Maharashtra.
