India won 1st Test Series in England just 50 years back

Bhubaneswar: August 25: India won its first series against England in English Soil in 1971, just 50 years ago. On 24th August, which was the fifth & final day of the third & final test at the Oval, Ajit Wadekar-led Team had defeated England by four wickets. In three-match series, first two Tests were drawn.

England won the toss and scored 355 with good contribution by opener John Jameson (82) and 90 from wicketkeeper Alan Knott.

But, The team lost opener Sunil Gavaskar early but could manage to do 284.

In the 2nd innings,  Bhagwath Chandrasekhar picked up 6 wickets and England could do only 101.

The visitors were set a target of 173 runs on the final day. Again, Opener Gavaskar made zero and and Ashok Mankad 11.

Captain Wadekar and Sardesai, Gundappa Viswanath and  Engineer played very well and India won the match.

That was in fact a memorable day as when India beat England by four wickets with 205 minutes to spare at the Kennington Oval, to clinch to series 1-0.

it was also the first time that India triumphed in two series in one year, having defeated the West Indies earlier.

On 25th August in 2021, India will start its third test against England in English Soil. If they wins this test, at least, it will not lose the series.

In the first Test of the Current series, We were about to win. But, could not due to bad weather.

So, all the Cricket lovers wish that, India must win the series to make the series memorable.
