Sambalpur, Mar 24: Today a newborn boy was allegedly stolen from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology ward of the Sadar hospital here. The family members of the baby boy alleged that an unknown woman took the infant with her when he was sleeping beside his mother, Gitabjali Majhi who is a resident of the Amlapali village under Jujumara block here. The baby boy’s father, Aniruddha Majhi stated to the media that his wife had been hospitalized on Wednesday and she gave birth to the baby boy at 12 pm yesterday. At around 2 am last night, Aniruddha dozed off for five minutes while sitting beside his wife’s bed in the ward. On waking up he found his son missing who was sleeping beside his wife. On asking the gransmother of the baby that had anyone come beside the hospital bed of the mother anytime, she said that at around 3 am yesterday an unknown young woman wearing a yellow saaree and a shawl around her asked the grandmother to give the baby on her lap in the koshali language. On refusing to give the baby as he was fast asleep, the woman left the place.
An FIR has been lodged at the Town PS here. In spite of CCTV cameras being installed at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology ward and security guards also there, the incident took place. One of the guard stated that at night, three security guard are deployed near the ward.
Sambalpur CDMO Kodandadhara Rao stated to the media that the incident of stealing the newborn is true.
