Inter-ministerial panel meeting regarding lecturers demand, fails

Bhubaneswar, FEB 15: The meeting of the lecturers association with the inter-ministerial committee at the State Secretariat on Monday was unsuccessful. The committee has further decided to conduct the meeting again on March 25.

The committee was headed by Finance Minister Pradip Amat along with Law Minister Arun Sahoo, Technical Education Minister Sanjay Das Burma, Higher Education Minister Pradeep Kumar Panigrahi and Energy Minister Pranab Prakash Das to look into the demands of 488 and 622 Category Colleges.

It may be recalled here that about 15,000 teachers and employees of 488 and 662 Category colleges have been staging demonstrations demanding abolition of Block Grant and implementation of full Grant-In-Aid (GIA).

The lecturers association had stated about planning to boycott the ensuing Plus II and Plus III examination scheduled to be held between February 16 and March 2 if the Government fails to address their demands at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the lecturers association is going to meet in the evening. They are going to decide their future course of action regarding their agitation, said sources.
