JE Outbreak: Death toll to 114 with one more child dying yesterday

Malkangiri, Nov 21: The death toll due increased to 114 due to the outbreak of the vector-borne disease, Japanese Encephalitis with the death of one more child while being treated at the district headquarters hospital on Sunday morning. The name of the child is Suresh Madkami belonging to Kamalapada area under the Korakonda block here.

Making judgment on the public interest litigation (PIL) filed on the Japanese Encephalitis outbreak in Malkangiri, on Thursday the Orissa High Court issued notices to both the Union & State Health secretaries. The court has directed them to reply giving two weeks of time. Besides, the Malkangiri collector has also been served with a notice by the court. It may be noted that the PIL had been filed by the parents of a deceased child and a lawyer. Thus, the PIL has asked for setting up of an expert team who will find out the cause of the disease, provide free health services in affected area and also compensate the families who have lost their child.
