Joint operation by Odisha and Andhra police, 24 naxals killed

Visakhapatnam, Oct 24: In Odisha and Andhra Police joint operation in Bejjangi forest in the cut-off areas in between Ramgurha and Panasaputa in Malkangiri district, total 24 naxals have been killed on Monday. This was informed by Rahul Dev, Visakhapatnam SP today.

As per the information, hardcore Maoist Gajarla Ravi aka Uday who had cash prize worth Rs 2 lakh, Chalapati and Ganesh have been killed among others in the joint operation.

Search operations are being carried out in the area and it is expected that more Maoist dead bodies are likely to be recovered, Dev further added.

Sources said that after receiving information about the presence of top Maoist cadre Ramakrishna aka RK at the spot where around 50-60 naxals had assembled for a meeting, the police initiated the joint operation.

However, two Greyhounds personnel of Andhra Pradesh special force with an officer of DSP rank sustained injuries during the operation and were admitted at the King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam by helicopter. However, one personnel, Md Abu Bakar succumbed to his injuries later.

Two SLR guns, four AK-47 and ten 303 guns have been seized by the police from the spot, sources informed.
