Joint operation by Odisha and Andhra police: Home Dept asks central forces to stay on high alert in Koraput, Kalahandi

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: After the encounter done by the Odisha and Andhra Pradesh police at the cut off areas of Malkangiri on 24TH October where around 28 cadre Maoists were killed, the central forces and the Special Operation Group (SOG) have been asked to stay on high alert at Kalahandi and Koraput by the Odisha Home department.

The instruction has been given to CRPF and its Special COBRA Battalion, BSF and SOG of Odisha police in Koraput and Kalahandi keeping in mind the precautionary measures, Asit Tripathy, State Principal Secretary, Home informed the media on Wednesday.

He said that currently the IG (Operation), south-western range and Malkangiri SP, DIG are now in Malkangiri district headquarters and a decision to further intensify the Greyhounds special force of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha police joint operation has been taken.

The Home Secretary said that the death toll of the Maoists has reached 28 as the security personnel have recovered 28 bodies. Out of the 28 bodies recovered, 18 bodies have been identified and soon these dead bodies will be handed over to their respective family members, while the remaining 10 bodies would be identified very soon.

He added that most of the Maoists that died in the encounter are the state committee members which belongs to the RK (Ramkrishna) Group.
