JSPL supported rural sport talents excel in Nat’l level championship

Bhubaneswar, April 5: The rural sport talents of Barbil and Sialijoda in Keonjhar district, supported and promoted by JSPL Foundation, the CSR arm of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL), have once again excelled in National Level Kick-Boxing and Wushu Championship.

 The Kick-Boxing and Wushu team comprising the rural sports talents of Sialijoda Village under Deojhar gram panchyat in Joda block of Keonjhar district bagged two silver and as many  bronze medals in the 15th Sub-Junior National Wushu Championship-2016 held at Patanjali, Haridwar, Uttarakhand from March 27  to 30, 2016, organised by Uttarakhand Wushu Association.

A team of 12 students comprising eight students from Sialijoda village and four from Barbil represented in the National Wushu Championship-2016.  While Krishna Munda, studying in from Sialijoda and Bapi Chatterjee from Barbil  bagged one silver medal each, Manju Munda and Kirtimayee Munda  won Bronze medals in this National Championship. The winners were given grand welcome at Deojhar Railway Station by JSPL Foundation team, local leaders and sports lovers.

Notably, about 80 tribal students (boys and girls from age group of 7 -14 years) from the villages of Deojhar panchayat are learning and practicing Kick-Boxing and Wushu under coach Pankaj Mahanta over the past six years at Sialijoda.

JSPL Foundation Barbil have been promoting these popular sports among tribal youth by providing all sort of infrastructure and coaching facilities for the rural sports talents to shine in National and International level. These talents have also participated in many National Level championships and brought laurels.
