Bhubaneswar: June 07: Sri Amiya Kumar Panda, J.E, Sadar Block, Puri was caught red handed by the Officers of Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division, while demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs.7,000/- from the Complt. Sri Ranjit Lenka, S/o Sri Sukanta Kumar Lenka at Gopinathpur, Puri to take measurement of the construction of Bada Akhada Jagaghar at Lokanath Road, Puri and to prepare bill. The gist of the case is that the complainant Sri Ranjit Lenka was issued with work order by BDO, Sadar Block, Puri for construction of Bada Akhada Jagaghar at Lokanath Road, Puri and a sum of Rs.2 lakhs was sanctioned under MLA LAD fund 2016-17. The work file was received by Sri Amiya Kumar Panda, J.E, Sadar Block on 26.05.2017 for supervision of the work. On 30.05.2017, as per the instruction of the J.E Sri Panda, the complainant started the said work and spent a sum of Rs.25,000/- approximately as on 30.06.2017 towards the construction. Thereafter, he requested the J.E Sri Panda to take measurement of the work and to prepare the bill. But, Sri Panda demanded Rs.10,000/- for this purpose. As Sri Lenka expressed his inability to pay such a huge amount due to his poor financial condition, Sri Panda reduced the demanded amount to Rs.7,000/- and asked him to come with the money on 07.06.2017. Finding no other alternative, he reported the matter to S.P, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar Division for initiation of action. Accordingly, a trap was laid on 07.06.2017 at about 12.05 P.M. The Complt. Sri Lenka met the accused J.E Sri Panda in his office room at Sadar Block office, Puri and handed over the bribe money of Rs.7,000/-. The bribe money has been recovered and seized. The hand wash of Sri Panda gave positive chemical reaction confirming acceptance of bribe. His parental house at Plot No.503/6, Nayapalli, Bhubaneswar and his father-in-law’s house at Duttatota, Puri are being searched. Accused Sri Panda, J.E has been arrested and will be forwarded to the court in custody.
In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. case No.23 dt.05.06.2017 U/s 7 P.C. Act, 1988 has been registered.
