Cuttack, Feb 26: Justice Vineet Saran was sworn in as new chief justice of the Orissa High Court on Friday.
Governor S C Jamir administered the oath of office to the new chief justice at 10.30 am at a ceremony held on the High Court premises here.
Present on the occasion were Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, other ministers, judges, legal luminaries, civil officials and other invitees.
Justice Saran, who was a judge of the Karnataka High Court, succeeds D H Waghela, who has been transferred to the Bombay High Court.
The post of Odisha chief justice was lying vacant since Waghela took oath as the new chief justice of the Bombay HC on February 15.
Senior judge of Orissa HC Justice Pradeep Kumar Mohanty was officiating as the acting chief justice in the interrugnum.
