Bhubaneswar, Aug 25: To protest against the unavailability of crop insurance money and input subsidy against the crops lost in drought in 2015, thousands of farmers of Kalahandi district on Thursday took to the streets and staged demonstration.
As per information, vehicular movement on the Kharial-Bhawanipatna road has been severely affected as people belonging to 10 gram panchayats gathered at Borda on the State Highway 16 and staged road blockade.
Even though the people had paid premium for the crop insurance, they had not received the insurance for the crop loss occurred due to drought in 2015. The State Government had announced about input subsidy to farmers a year ago, but still they have not received the subsidy.
The locals alleged and demanded that the State Government should ensure them of early payment of the insurance money and input subsidy and also the period for crop insurance should be extended further so that they all can be covered under the Central scheme.
Many police platoons have been deployed at the spot to avoid any unwanted situation.
