Nayagarh, Oct 25: A manhunt that was set in motion by the Itamati police to catch the main accused in connection to a case of humiliation of a teacher at a kangaroo court in Nayagarh district finally paid off with the arrest of the accused on Monday named Baridhar Nayak, president of the village committee.

As per reports, Baridhar has been arrested for allegedly delivering the verdict in the kangaroo court where a teacher named Sreedhara Naik faced humiliation and was subjected to inhuman treatment.

Besides, the Itamati police had arrested two persons in this connection on Saturday named Sanjay and Mayadhara Pradhan from Balarampur and had forwarded them to the court.

As per reports, Sreedhara had a minor altercation with Mayadhara following which he had gone to solve the dispute between Balarampur and Bijipur village as the conflicts between the two villages became difficult for working of the local government school teachers.

As per the complaint filed by Naik with the police on October 20, he was asked to beg for apology from the villagers present at the kangaroo court. After the apology, in the form of punishment in connection to the altercation, the kangaroo court forced him to pass through the legs of the Balarampur village president Mayadhara Pradhan. Out of fear he obeyed the order as the villagers had weapons with them and would not have allowed him to go safely from the court otherwise. While he was being publically humiliated, Pradhan’s son recorded a video and later uploaded it on WhatsApp.

After Naik came to know about the video circulation, he tried to commit suicide but was fortunately saved by his family members and later filed a complaint with the local police.
