Koraput, Feb 2: Koraput Municipality Biswabhusan Patnaik has resigned from his post after being accused of misbehaving with a woman councillor.
Patnaik, a BJD leader, submitted his resignation letter to the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) in the presence of District BJD president. He also sent his resignation letter to party supremo and chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
“I decided to resign from the post of chairman for the sake of the reputation of my party following an allegation of misbehaviour brought against me by a lady councillor of ward no-13,” Patnaik told media persons here.
He, however, denied the allegation and demanded a probe to ascertain the truth.
Meanwhile, the District Congress Committee (DCC), which had called for a bandh in Koraput town today to protest police inaction in arresting Koraput municipality chairman, withdrew its decision after his resignation.
The DCC president Meenakshi and Koraput legislator Krushna Chandra Sagaria had alleged that police are deliberately not acting in the case despite an FIR being filed as the accused belongs to the ruling party.
