Kinnaur Hits Again: 1 Dead, Many trapped in Landslide

In a major landslide at the Reckong Peo-Shimla Highway in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur, one person has died, and around 30 are feared buried. The incident that took place this afternoon left many vehicles trapped under debris.

The ITBP and NDRF teams have reached the area, and the rescue operation is undergo. The rock slide has led a truck, a bus and other vehicles buried under it. The bus, which was en route Shimla was carrying nearly 40 on board. Nearly 25-30 are still trapped inside. The personnel have rescued 9 people since.

“I’ve directed the police and the local administration to carry out rescue operations. NDRF has also been put on alert. We have received information that one bus and a car could have been hit. We are waiting for detailed information,” Mr Jairam Thakur told reporters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also spoken to Mr Thakur regarding the situation and assured him of all possible support, according to the government.

In the last few weeks, Himachal has suffered many landslides caused by the heavy, rains. Earlier last month, another major landslide at Kinnaur had killed 9 tourists after huge rocks fell on their cars.
