Star Wrestler Vinesh Phogat Suspended: Barred From All Wrestling Activities

Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat whose 2021 Olympic journey ended with a defeated in her quarter final round, suspended. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Tuesday has temporarily suspended her for her indiscipline at the Venue.

Vinesh Phogat, the star wrestler of India, who was defeated in the quarter finals of her Olympic game was issued a so cause notice for her misconduct and indiscipline at the Tokyo Olympics and was temporarily suspended and barred from all wrestling activities on Tuesday, the 10th of August, 2021. Phogat has been given time till 16th August to reply to the notice, that mentions indiscipline on 3 counts. She won’t be able to compete in any national or domestic event until she files a reply & WFI takes a final decision.

IOA warns WFI for misconduct at Tokyo

According to sources,

  • Phogat had been training under coach Woller Akos at Hungry. After flying to Tokyo, she had refused to stay at the Games Village with the other Indian team members. She was allotted a room near her other Indian teammates. However, she created a ruckus & denied staying there. According to her, she might contract to Covid-19, since those wrestlers had Travelled from India, added the Sources.
  • She refused to wear the name of the official sponsors of the Indian contingent, Shiv Naresh, & rather chose a Nike Singlet.
  • She refused to train with his Indian teammates as her training time clashed with other Indian wrestlers and thus chose not to train at the same arena.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) earlier has pulled up Wrestling Federation of India(WFI) for failing to control its athletes at the Tokyo Olympics. IOA has also issued a notice to the WFI in this regard. Acting on this, WFI issued so cause notices to Vinesh Phogat & Sonam Malik for indiscipline and misconduct at Tokyo.

Being a top medal contender at the Olympics, she got defeated by a fall against Belarus’ Vanesa.
