Life imprisonment to Gurmeet Ram Rahim
A special court in Haryana today awarded life imprisonment to Dera Sacha Sauda’s Gurmeet Ram Rahim and four others in the murder of Ranjit Singh, a former follower of him.
Also, the court imposed a fine of Rs 31 lakh on Ram Rahim and Rs 50,000 each on other accused.
Earlier, on October 8, 2021, the court had convicted Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and four others in the 19-year-old murder case.
Notably, Ranjit Singh, a former follower of Ram Rahim, was shot dead by four assailants on July 10, 2002, at his native Khanpur Kolian village in Kurukshetra district.
Earlier, CBI Court in Haryana’s Panchkula, held Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh guilty in the murder case of his disciple, Ranjit Singh, in 2002.
Apart from Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the CBI court also convicted four others — Krishan Lal, Sabdil Singh, Jasbir Singh and Avtar Singh — in the same case.
The CBI had registered the said case on the orders passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2003.
Ram Rahim Singh is currently serving a 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment for the rape of two women followers at Rohtak’s Sunaria jail.
He was also convicted for life for the murder of Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chattrapati.
