Litterateur Rajat Kar Cremated At Swargadwara With Full State Honours

Puri: May 09: Noted Odia Litterateur Padma Shri Rajat Kumar Kar, who passed away on Sunday, was cremated at Swargadwara of Puri today. He was given a guard of honour at Swargadwar cremation ground by the Puri district administration. His elder son Ranjit Kar performed his last rites.

Family sources said, he was suffering from heart-related ailments and breathed his last at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar at the age of 89 years on May 8, 2022.

Minister, Panchayat Raj and Urban Development Pratap Jena, Additional District Magistrate Pradeep Kumar Sahu, Municipal Executive Officer Saroj Kumar Swain, Deputy Collector Bhavataran Sahu, Additional Superintendent of Police Mihir Kumar Panda, District Culture Officer Hemant Behera paid their last respects at Swargadwara.

At Puri Swargadwar, the youngest son Rajiv Kar, the eldest daughter-in-law Nivedita Kar, the younger daughter-in-law Gita Kar, daughter Sagarika Prahraj, Sambita Kar, son-in-law Manmohan Prahraj, Bhubaneswar Mohapatra, grandson Anshuman Kar, Suman Kar, Pradeep Kar, granddaughter-in-law Debasmita Kar and Relatives were present.

Many dignitaries, literary and Sanskrit lovers paid their last respects at swargadwara.

He was conferred with Padma Shri in 2021 for literature and education. Professor Kar was a renowned orator of Jagannath Culture and people always love him for his commentary during the annual Ratha Jatra.
