Bolangir, Apr 13: Today the members of the Lower Suktel Mahila Mahasangha staged dharna near the spillways work site of the Lower Suktel project, thus demanding immediate rehabilitation of the displaced people and distribution of ex-gratia and also prompting the district administration here to deploy three platoons of police at the spot. The protesters were around 100 women and it’s reported that more women are likely to join the protest. It may be recalled that few days back, 15 villages had a meeting where the villagers decided to form the Mahila Mahashangh for keeping forth their demand of speedy rehabilitation of the project-affected people. Previously there had been a difference in the views as some groups protested the Lower Suktel project while others supported it stating the fact that with the completion of the project there would be availability of better irrigation facilities.
