Bhubaneswar, Jan 31: Yesterday Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President, Prasad Harichandan looked for an intervention of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to resolve the Mahanadi water dispute with Chhattisgarh. The PCC President lettered to the PM urging the latter to ensure the formation of an Inter-State River Water Dispute Tribunal and also order the Chhattisgarh government to stop all construction on the Mahanadi. It was further stated that constructions on Mahanadi and its tributaries will not provide the Odisha people their due share of water. This unilateral construction by the Chhattisgarh government results in breach of principles of cooperative federalism that the Constitution envisages. He blamed the Centre for doing little to resolve the issue. The President also blamed the Odisha Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik for “betraying the trust of people of Odisha”.

The PCC President also lettered to the Odisha CM separately stating that the Chhattisgarh government has dared to take up construction activities on Mahanadi clearly due to lack administrative and political callousness of the Odisha government.
