Mega Ponzi scam; CBI took Trinamool Congress MP on remand

Bhubaneswar, Dec 31: Arrested Tapas Paul, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP has been brought to Bhubaneswar by the CBI on remand for interrogation about the Rose Valley chit fund scam and his involvement in it.

He used to get paid by the group for its promotion but necessary information about his financial transaction with the group are yet to be ascertain, CBI official informed.

As a part of investigation on Rose valley, the firm who had raised crores of amounts illegally through its various branches, in March, the CBI had raided Paul’s residence located in Kolkata.

It may be noted that, on January 7, 2016 CBI had submitted a charge sheet at the Special CJM court against the firm. In the charge sheet it had stated that, from total collected amount of Rs 17,000 crore, Rs 450 crore is from Odisha and the amount was collected through its 28 branches set up across the state.

Apart from Odisha the firm also raised money from West Bengal, Tripura, Assam, Jharkhand and Maharashtra.

The investigation process related to the firm is still on and is being carried on by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) and the Enforcement Directorate and has attached assets worth Rs 1,250 crore of the company this year.
