Bhubaneswar, Feb 8: A meeting was held at Rayagada on situation in the 10 districts where the infant and mother mortality rates have been alarmingly high, even more worse than Kenya. The aggrieved infant, pregnant mother deaths and other related predicaments were discussed in the meet.
While the condition of Kandhamal is very alarming with most mortality rates, in Nabarangpur the home births are more as none have delivered so far in the health centres in the district.In Rayagada, Gajpati, Malkangiri malaria related infant deaths are higher, while the dislike of doctors for coming into these interior districts was discussed with relevance to vision 2020 of the Government, so for establishing amenities for the doctors of Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centres was also discussed. Health Secretary Dr Ahuja said to enhance the availability of clean drinkable water at health centres while convincing women would come to health centres for delivering, and marrying at right ages should be the major duties to prevent these mishaps.
“Along with 102 and 108 ambulance, other ambulance facilities are underway for these interior areas, for taking this system ahead we will have to go hand in hand. Through Niramaya Yojana free medicine should be ensured,” National Rural Health Mission( NRHM0 Director Salini Pandit said. The Collectors have been given prime responsibility and district wise inspection will be made in this regard. The total analysis of the meet will be presented in the upcoming Budget and accordingly funds will be allocated, she added. Southern Range RDC Bhasakarjyoti Sharma, Primary Health Director, Family Welfare Director, the District Collectors of nine districts, Chief District Medical Officers (CDMO) , ACDMO, among others were present in the meet barring only Ganjam Collector who was not present
