New Delhi/Bhubaneswar, May 4: The capital of Odisha, Bhubaneswar-the smart city has been ranked among the top 100 in the Swachh Survekshan-2017, standing at number 99. While Bhubaneswar has been ranked 94 in the sanitation rankings of Cities/Towns State/UT-wise.
The ‘Swachh Survekshan-2017’ results which was scheduled to be announced by the Union Ministry of Urban Development today has been announced by the Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu at the National Media Centre here. The Ministry had started the Swachh Survekshan-2017 where a survey was conducted by the Quality Council of India (QCI) under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in which 500 cities across the country had to be ranked based on cleanliness having a population of one lakh and above. Over 18 lakh citizens filled the survey having a set of six questions, giving their opinions on sanitation situation in cities and towns. The survey was commissioned during January – February this year. MoUD had begun the Swachh Survekshan survey way back in 2016 to foster a healthy competition between cities for improving cleanliness standards. 73 cities across the country were ranked in 2016 and Mysore was ranked on top followed by Chandigarh. The results are decided as 15 cities who scores more than 70% of the total marks of 2000 are categorized as Leaders, 20 cities with scores in the range of 60%-70% are Aspiring Leaders, those with scores in the range of 50%-60% are the cities who need to accelerate their efforts and cities who score below 50% named Slow Movers who need to work harder to improve sanitation.
