Sambalpur: May 19: Mr Anil Kumar Jha, Chairman and Managing Director, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), has assumed the charge of the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of ‘Maharatna’ Coal India Limited, the largest coal miner in the world. Mr Jha has taken over as 27th Chairman of Coal India.
The President of India had approved the proposal of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet for appointment of Mr Jha, at present the CMD of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd, to the post of CMD Coal India till his superannuation i.e. 31 January 2020.
Mr Anil Kumar Jha is a mining graduate and M. Tech. from renowned Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. He started his career with Coal India as Junior Executive (Trainee) at Topa Colliery in Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) in 1983 and joined Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) as CMD on 1st of November 2015. MCL, the youngest Coal India subsidiary, achieved greater heights under the leadership of Mr Jha, who as CMD successfully steered the company to register growth consecutively in spite of tough operational challenges.
Under his command MCL had recorded its highest ever coal production at 143.06 million tonnes during the year ended on March 31, 2018, which was 2.8 per cent up against 139.21 million tonne dry fuel mined during 2016-17.
