Bhubaneswar, May 29: Thinking about the difficulties being faced while disbursing the kharif loans because of the delay in converting the old Kisan Credit Card (KCC) into Rupay Kisan Credit Card (RKCC), NABARD has strictly asked the state government to complete the conversion process fast for smooth monetary transaction for farmers. It has lettered to the Odisha government that the latter has has not issued any Rupay card between between Jan 1 2017 and May 12 2017. It had been decided that the state would convert 12.71 lakh KCC into Rupay cards by Mar 31 but just one co-operative bank in Odisha has done that. Also, the farmers are still unaware about the use of the new Rupay cards even as the kharif season is heading nearer and they use the pesticide, fertilizers and seeds through the KCCs.
On the other hand, the state government has blamed NABARD on charges of not having fact-based information and has assured to provide new Rupay cards before kharif season. Odisha has emerged as the successful state in introducing the highest number of Rupay Cards. Cooperative Minister Surya Narayan Patro informed to media.
Notably, 44.65 lakh farmers have been provided with KCCs through Odisha’s cooperative banks. But on Mar 31 2016, the Centre announced to introduce Rupay card to be made in use instead of KCC to carry out all financial transaction of farmers. A year has gone but the state has still not completed the conversion process.
