National dance, music fest in capital city from today


Bhubaneswar, Feb 15: A two-day National Dance and Music Festival would begin at the Bhanja Kala Mandap from Monday.

The festival to be organised by the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi with support from the State Culture Department and the Kalakunj, New Delhi would witness noted artistes from in and outside the State performing during the two days.

Bijay Jena and Srinivas Satpathy would present Odishi song and flute play, respectively on the inaugural evening. Cuttack’s Rabi Shankar Pradhan would play Sitar with them. Besides, New Delhi’s Snehasini Sahoo and Mumbai’s Richa Jain will perform Odissi and Kathak dance, respectively.

Similarly, on the second evening, Bhubaneswar’s Nimakant Rout would present Odishi song, Cuttack’s A Maheshwar Hindustani vocal, Chennai’s Nibedita Parthasarathi Bharatnatyam and Kolkata’s Goutam Ghoshal would present Kathakali dance.

This was informed at Press conference held here on Sunday. Akademi president Trupti Das, vice-president Ramhari Das and secretary Dhirendranath Mallick were present.
