Jatni, Feb 7: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today exhorted the students of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) to undertake research to make a meaningful contribution to the society.
“Your commitment is definitely to yourselves and your families but also to a much larger world. Your work will have the capacity to improve human lives in fundamental ways,” Patnaik told the students of the institute, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Stating that the major changes of the world had started from universities and institutions like the NISER, Patnaik said that classroom teaching is a part of learning experience.
“Much of what you will imbibe will not be taught in classrooms, but in informal interactions with great minds and working with local communities. We hope that apart from achieving great heights of personal fame, you will also achieve great satisfaction in using the knowledge that you have gained here for the good of the community,” he said in his address.
Patnaik said legendary leader Biju Patnaik had a strong affinity for science and technology and always encouraged the youth to develop a scientific temper. “To honour acclaimed scientists for popularising science and for inculcating scientific temper among the masses, Biju Babu had instituted the coveted UNESCO-Kalinga Award in 1952. We expect this Institute to continue those traditions to inspire and sharpen the knowledge and skills of young persons,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the people of the State are fortunate to have an Institute like NISER in Bhubaneswar, which has been selected as the number one Smart City in the country.
Reiterating that the State government is committed to promoting Bhubaneswar as a hub of scientific and technical education, the Chief Minister hoped that the students of NISER, who have come from different parts of the country to study and grow, will forever carry a piece of Bhubaneswar and Odisha in their heart.
“You are all young, brilliant minds who will take the country forward. All of you have come here with great dreams. I hope and pray that all your dreams come true,” he told the students.
