Bhubaneswar, April 18: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Sunday urged the people of the State and BJD activists to carry forward the mission of visionary leader Biju Patnaik.
Addressing a gathering of party activists at the Party headquarters here on the later leaders 20th death anniversary Patnaik said Biju Babu was a thought. His vision was far reaching for developing the State.
“We need to carry forward his work to ensure State’s development. I urge the people of the State and Party workers to spread his message in every nook and corner of the State,” he said paying his tribute.
Patnaik said, “ Biju Babu was chief minister for only seven years in 1960 and 1990. But his contribution towards the development of the State will make him immortal for generations to come.”
He said the people of the State have reposed faith in BJD for the past 18 years. “Their faith and conviction is increasing every day due to the progressive policies of the BJD government,” he added.
Policies such as women empowerment, Biju Pucca Ghar scheme, Biju KBK Yojna, Re 1 rice scheme and a host of social security schemes have endeared the party to the people, the Chief Minister asserted.
The Chief Mininster visited Puri to pay tribute to his father’s memorial at Swargadwar along with a host of prominent citizen, common people and BJD workers.
Patnaik posted one his old childhood photos where he was seen with Biju Babu and his mother Gyan Devi and tweeted, “Childhood memories. ..remembering Biju Babu #BijuCentenary.”
Patnaik attended several programmes, blood donation camp and inaugurated a photo exhibition on life of Biju Babu at the Puri Town Hall.
Activists of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) organised several programmes to remember the visionary leader on the death anniversary, including a blood donation camp at the Gopabandhu Ayurvedic Hospital.
In the State capital a series of programmes were organised across the State to mark the day. People from various walks of life performed ‘Tila Tarpna’ at Bindu Sagar here in the morning paying rich tributes to the former chief minister.
On the occasion, a blood donation camp under BJD’s ‘Jeevan Bindu’ programme was arranged at Brajabandhu Kalyan Mandap near Old Bhubaneswar square in the city where many party leaders were present.
Tributes were paid to the legend on State Legislative Assembly premises here in the morning. The Chief Minister offered a garland at the statue of Biju Babu in the assembly complex.
The Information and Public Relations department organised a state level photo exhibition to mark the day.
