Bhubaneswar: August 28: Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik has requested today to Union Minister of Earth Sciences and Science & Technology Dr.Harsh Vardhan to intervene in the matter of installation of Radars at Balsore and Sambalpur at the earliest.
Writing a letter in this regard, CM said, ‘In my earlier DO, dated 17th Oct’2015, I had sought your personal attention for taking expeditious steps for procurement and installation of Radars at Balasore and Sambalpur. But, Radars at these locations are yet to be installed. Doppler Radar Status at these two stations would help, among others, tracking of local storms, thunder storms in the northern and western parts of the state and providing of near real time forecast to save many lives.’
It is to be noted, the decision for installation of four Doppler Weather Radars in disaster prone state of Odisha for tracking and monitoring of real time weather forecasts, was taken by Government of India way back in the year 2006. In the meantime, two radars’ one each at Paradeep and Gopalpur, have been installed and operational.
