Bhubaneswar: The National Commissioner for Women (NCW) has proposed a pre-marital counselling centre in Odisha.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar made this proposal during her meeting with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday.
She was in the city to address a special function organized on the 32nd Foundation Day of Odisha Women’s Commission in Bhubaneswar.
The Chief Minister is understood to have given a nod to the NCW proposal.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida told reporters that young couples are frequently giving divorce due to lack of counselling. Hence, this year the Women’s commission will work like a Mother’s court to create awareness among the women regarding married life.
“Village meetings will be held in this regard. It will be a new page towards women’s right,” she said.
