Nehru Club Lifted 9th Katepurty Invitational Inter Village Football Tournament-2015 organised by Tata Steel Sukinda Chromite Mine

Sukinda, Dec 25: In the final match,  Nehru Club of Bhalutangara from Dhenkanal district  lifted 9th Katepurty Invitational Inter Village Football Tournament-2015, organised by Tata Steel Sukinda Chromite Mine, by defeating ABC team of Katepurty Nagar by 1-0.  Biju Marandi scored the winning goal on behalf of Nehru club in the first half but the rival team, though put up a good fight, could not be successful to match it.

Pritiranjan Ghadai, MLA, Sukinda, Chief Guest on the occasion, awarded the winning and runner up teams in presence of Bhagabati Mohanata, Block Chairman, Sukinda and Rajesh Patel, Chief, Mining, Sukinda Chromite Mine, Tata Steel.

Commending Tata Steel for organising the tournament Ghadei said, such initiatives will give a fillip to sports persons from rural area to forge ahead in their career. Speaking on the occasion Patel said in order to promote sports, particularly football among the local people Tata Steel Sukinda Chromite Mine has been organising this rural football tournament for last 8 years. And it will continue to take such initiatives in days to come.

This 13 days tournament witnessed some brilliant performance on the filed  by players of 32 football teams from rural areas of Jajpur, Keonjhar and Dhenkanal districts vying with each other for the title. While Biju Mandal of Nehru Club was declared as the highest scorer in the tournament, Chunu Karai of ABC team was the best goal keeper and 10 other players were also awarded in various categories.

Among others present occasion included Bibek Bosh, Vice Chairman, Sukinda Block, Bidyadhara Patra, Zilla Parisad, Sukinda, representatives of local Panchayati Raj institutions, Gouranga Das, General Secretary, Workers’ Union, SCM, Papu Singh, Vice President, Workers’ Union, SCM, senior officers of the company, members of Union, local people and representatives from media.
